    A transparent overview of how mobile applications are evaluated within the Top App Audit framework.

    What is the Top App Award?

    The Top App Award is an independent recognition of mobile applications in the banking and telecommunications sectors in the Czech and Slovak markets.

    The award is presented annually by Byzkids and is based on the Top App Audit — a comprehensive evaluation framework consisting of nearly 70 clearly defined mobile app usage scenarios. The audit benchmarks the performance of evaluated applications against leading global players, enabling objective ranking from best to worst.

    Each scenario within the Top App Audit is weighted based on ongoing quantitative customer research, which assesses the importance of individual use cases from the end-user perspective. This approach ensures an objective and customer-centric evaluation, even for complex mobile applications in highly regulated industries such as banking.

    How is the evaluation conducted?

    The Top App Audit assesses mobile applications across four stages of the digital customer journey: Acquisition, Usage, Value, and Profit. These stages are evaluated through nearly 70 measurable usage scenarios.

    All scenarios are assessed using detailed, predefined criteria and reflect how effectively, intuitively, quickly, and user-centrically customers can fulfil their needs within a mobile application.

    The digital journey begins with Acquisition, focusing on how easily and smoothly users can onboard into the mobile app. This is followed by Usage, which evaluates the usability and performance of core functionalities that users rely on for everyday interactions.

    The Value stage assesses features designed to increase engagement and app usage frequency, while the Profit stage focuses on value-added services, cost efficiency, and the app's ability to reduce operational costs through digital self-service.

    Scoring and outputs

    Each stage of the digital journey (Acquisition, Usage, Value, Profit) consists of multiple topics, which are further broken down into individual scenarios. Every scenario has its own evaluation criteria and weighting within the model.

    Applications can achieve a score ranging from 0 to 100 in each scenario:

    • 0 indicates that the functionality is not available,
    • 100 represents best-in-class performance benchmarked against leading global applications.

    Based on the aggregated results, we identify and prioritise key areas for further product development and optimisation.

    Award criteria

    The Top App Award is granted to applications based on their overall performance in the Usage and Value stages of the digital customer journey, reflecting both functional excellence and the ability to deliver meaningful value to users.
